Founded in Detroit, Phase 5 R&B Motown blends classic Motown sounds with vibrant energy and soulful vocals. Our mission is to keep Detroit’s iconic musical traditions alive by delivering electrifying live shows and connecting with fans who cherish the Motown legacy.
Phase 5 is Detroit's premier "Super Group," delivering iconic hits from Motown, R&B, and Funk. With five seasoned vocalists leading the charge and backed by five accomplished musicians, Phase 5 captivates audiences with stunning harmonies, vibrant costumes, and high-energy choreography. Widely recognized as one of Detroit’s most in-demand groups, Phase 5 has graced some of the city's most prestigious stages, including the "Detroit Auto Show," "Art, Beats & Eats," "Winterblast," and "The National R&B Hall of Fame." They’ve also performed at iconic venues like "The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre," "The Fillmore Theatre," "The MGM Grand Casino," "The 20 Grand," "The Roostertail," and the historic "Detroit Yacht Club."

Our members bring decades of experience, passion, and authentic style to every performance. Learn more about the artists behind Phase 5 R&B Motown and their dedication to sharing Detroit’s soulful sound.
Phase 5 was formed in 2004 as a mixed-gender group with three male and two female singers. They made a powerful debut with a standout performance at Greektown Casino, where their vocal harmonies quickly won over audiences. As their popularity grew, they became an all-male group, bringing in five seasoned musicians from various genres to add even more energy to their shows.
With the addition of live musicians, the group’s following expanded rapidly, securing multi-year contracts at key venues. They performed at popular nightclubs like Cliff Bells and the 20 Grand, building a loyal fan base while also opening for major acts like The SOS Band, The Isley Brothers, The Whispers, Mary Wilson, Howard Hewitt, and Freddie Jackson.
Over time, Phase 5 earned bookings with major national organizations, including The US Postal Service and The R&B Hall of Fame. They've performed for crowds as large as 6,000 at The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre and over 3,000 at the TCF Convention Center.
Now after 16 years, the group has performed over 500 times. It's a testament to talent, hard work, and professionalism. With their great harmonies, flashy attire, fabulous choreography, and extensive repertoire of vintage music favorites, plus their band powered by top musicians, Phase 5 has become one of the most popular and most beloved singing groups in Detroit.

"We're a classy, well-groomed, polished stage act. All my musicians are top-notch players. My guitar player has toured the world with "The Dramatics". My drummer has traveled with the "RJ Latest Arrival" band. My bass player has played with "Dennis Edwards and The Temptation Review". My emcee is among the best-of-the-best and also traveled with "RJ Latest Arrival". We are a family of love, respect and total commitment to always represent with excellence in every aspect of our performances."

What were their most memorable moments? Opening for The Whispers at The Filmore Theatre in 2015 and for the Isley Brothers at the Sound Board in 2019.

In 2011, Phase 5 was nominated and winner as Best R&B group of the year, nominated "2016 Best Live Performance" and won 2018 and 2019 as "Best Live Performance" all by the Detroit Black Music Awards. Since then, they have recorded 2 original songs which they plan to release soon to add to their repertoire of cover songs.
Phase 5 is not just a singing group, they're a TOTAL MUSICIAL EXPERIENCE. They rock the stage with memories of some of the greatest Motown hits and more. They are absolutely SPECIAL.
